208 DON’T POLISH

Plastic polishes are optional and not necessary. If you do use some, make sure nothing gets on the brake rotors, unless you like the taste of trees.

209 LUBE YOUR CHAIN

Lube your chain right after you wash your bike. If the chain has gunk on it, you can use a wire brush to clean a non O-ring chain, but only use a rag for an O-ring chain. Then spin the rear wheel while you spray chain lube on the inside of the chain; spin the wheel forwards, never backwards. Spray the gaps on each side, not the middle rollers. Watch your chain for smooth movement; it should not kink or bind as it rolls off of the rear sprocket. Lubing your chain right after you wash, rather than right before the next ride, will protect the chain from rusting and also from attracting extra dirt once the fun begins again.
